Queens really does have everything. I was so worried for your toes in the videos. I’m so glad no piggy’s got squished.

Yeah, aside from lifting the stone, protecting my toes was definitely the top priority! I was watching a documentary on stone lifting and a guy mentioned that he gets that concern a lot from people. But he’s never heard of an instance of a toe getting crushed!

Well thank goodness for that!

I chuckled at your Google Maps predicament – sometimes those online pictures don't quite match reality, do they? But it sounds like you embraced the adventure, even if it wasn't exactly what you expected. Your self-deprecating humor and willingness to try new things are admirable. And who knows, maybe you'll inspire a whole new generation of stone lifters in Queens!

Thanks, Alexander! A lot can change in a year, especially in NYC and online! I constantly think to myself, "if you build it, they will come." The city is full of "desire paths," and citizen altered landscapes. Whoever thought of this stone lifting site has certainly lit the fire in me to expand upon it!

It’s funny that there is an actual gym to do this! I just moved several large rocks for my wife in the flower beds. One of them is well over 100 lbs although I’ve never weighed it, and the others were between 50 to 100 lbs. we have a lot of big stones because we’ve been collecting for decades and have them all over the yard.

Oh yeah, an unofficial and non sanctioned gym for sure, but a dedicated space nonetheless!

Being a helpful husband, while getting in a good workout is the epitome of functional fitness! I’ve also done a fair share of 100 lbs sandbag and soil lifting in support of my wife’s green thumb!

I’d love to have a yard like yours. Our yard is incredibly urban…We do have several pieces of concrete leftover from previous construction jobs. I am certain that there are pieces up to 300 lbs. But our tiny yard is not the most ideal place to workout.
